Better be in Bundi
The word on the street is that Bundi is the next big thing. Give it two or three years they're saying. And it's quite possibly true, although we'd like to think that it will always be the small town with the friendly people. Having only been there once before there was a definite feelgood factor about a handful of people actually remembering you.
If Bundi's tourist persona is in its' infancy, then now is the time to see it. The tourist shops have yet to appear and the atmoshphere is just laid back. If people do engage with you it's always with a smile and an interest – not to try to persuade you to go to their restaurant, or brother's shop or on their cousin's camel ride. Even time has a different meaning in Bundi – if someone says they'll move their tuk-tuk out of your way in two minutes, it really means 30 seconds (anyone who has spent time in India will understand the significance of this!).
Between us we could probably cite hundreds of reasons to visit Bundi – even if you're not convinced, then just take a chance, because of all the places you could visit in Rajasthan, Bundi is the most likely to capture your heart.
On a final note – yesterday I mentioned the long arduous climb up to the Taragarh Fort. Well, today we found a very small road that leads up to the fort on the other side – so even if you're not feeling up to the climb, you don't have to miss out on the experience.
